Drunk Driving and Illegal Service of Alcohol to Visibly Intoxicated Patron
A favorable settlement was secured on behalf of a 22-year-old young man whose untimely death was caused by the over-service of alcohol by bartenders at Scorecard Sport’s Bar and Grill in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. Over 3 hours and 23 minutes the bartenders served 16-17 beers and a shot to just one patron without serving him any food, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.206%, which is two-and-a-half times the legal limit for driving.
As a result of the bar’s negligence, our client was involved in a fiery motor vehicle collision, suffering severe pain and injuries and he ultimately burned to death. In the past the bar had been fined for multiple prior violations of Pennsylvania’s laws regarding the service of alcohol. The bar allowed patrons to drink alcohol well after the legal closing time by serving alcohol to patrons and allowing them to drink as late as 2:30 a.m. In this case, the bar even had security camera video footage showing the excessive amount its many patrons were served in just a matter of hours.
Before a lawsuit was filed, we were able to negotiate a favorable settlement for the victim’s family.
