Preeclampsia: Symptoms, Treatment & Malpractice

Preeclampsia is a medical condition that only occurs in pregnant women, typically at 20 weeks of pregnancy or later. It occurs when a pregnant woman’s blood pressure climbs to potentially dangerous levels. This high blood pressure is directly related to the pregnancy, so the only true resolution and treatment will be the delivery of the baby. If the baby has not reached full term, this can be a challenge. In minor cases of preeclampsia, bed rest and medication may help. In serious cases, immediate delivery may be required to save mother and baby.

Your doctor should check your blood pressure and urine at every medical appointment during pregnancy. He or she should also listen to your symptoms and concerns. This will help identify preeclampsia, if it occurs.
