Beginning around Thanksgiving and running through the first weekend of March, Penn’s Landing transforms to a winterized version of itself. This cold-weather version of the popular riverfront park features an Olympic-size ice-skating rink, a ski-style lodge, winter garden featuring a tree lit with thousands of LED lights, outdoor seating with firepits, warming cabins, a kids lodge with arcade games, and many other fun features. Our Philadelphia personal injury lawyers love visiting Penn’s Landing in all four seasons, but a trip to Winterfest is always a special treat.
Blue Cross RiverRink
The Blue Cross RiverRink is the main attraction at Winterfest. It’s situated facing the Delaware River, which offers majestic views of the Ben Franklin Bridge, the Philadelphia skyline, and across the river into Camden. The RiverRink has been a Philadelphia holiday tradition for over 20 years. Daily public ice skating sessions are available for all ages, and the RiverRink offers on-site skate rentals, sharpening, and free special events throughout the season.
A great choice if you’re just looking to unwind on the ice, for a romantic date, or to teach your child how to ice skate for the first time.
The Lodge Restaurant and Bar
If you’re looking to escape the cold for a bit to warm up, The Lodge Restaurant and Bar is an on-site tent area styled after ski chalet lodges. You can get nice and toasty in front of one of many indoor fireplaces, rest on one of the plush couches, or challenge your date to some arcade games. Everything here is designed in the rustic style you’d expect to find in a real ski cabin, and the Lodge is consistently kept warm.
You can also enjoy a wide range of craft beers and hot cocktails here, along with delicious bar food. Chickie’s & Pete’s, Village Burger by Garces, and Rink Side Cafe and Portside Pizza all have booths in the lodge. Some of our favorite items on the menu here include:
- Lobster ravioli
- Village burger
- Chicken fried pierogis
- Funnel cake
- Fried Oreos
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, Franklin Fountain surely has some seasonal treats that will truly blow your mind. The menu features a variety of gourmet deserts, including:
- House-made hot chocolate
- Hot fudge sundaes
- Warm Brownie a la Mode
- Sm’ores kits with graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows all made on-site
- Ice cream waffle sandwiches
The Kids Lodge is directly across from the Lodge Restaurant and Bar. It features interactive arcade games and small rides designed for children. The floor is carpeted and covered with rubber mats, so your kids can enjoy the games without taking off their skates and switching back into shoes.
Some of the fun games that can be found in the Kids Lodge include:
- Air hockey
- Arcade racing games
