5 Things You Need To Check Out In Chinatown

Philly is full of diverse neighborhoods where immigrants from all over the world have contributed to the melting pot of the city’s culture. Our Philadelphia personal injury lawyers are particularly fond of the city’s Chinatown neighborhood, which offers a variety of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. Some of our favorite places in Chinatown include:

Ray’s Cafe & Teahouse

Ray’s Cafe is a cozy, traditional Taiwanese cafe and daytime restaurant, and one of our favorite places to stop for lunch in Chinatown. It’s been a Chinatown staple and family-owned since 1989. Some of our favorite dishes at Ray’s include:

  • Shrimp Spring Rolls
  • Seaweed Salad
  • Pork With Leek Dumplings
  • Curry Chicken Dumplings
  • Asparagus Chicken Soup
  • Seafood Tofu Soup
  • Taiwanese Rice Noodles
  • Shrimp Curry Rice Noodles
  • Seafood Row Tzaw Rice Noodles Soup
  • Young Chow Fried Rice

If you’re looking for a cozy spot to warm up in during your lunch break, Ray’s is always a great choice.

Heung Fa Chun Sweet House

Heung Fa Chun Sweet House is one of the most affordable restaurants in Chinatown – but don’t let their cheap prices mislead you about the quality. Heung Fa Chun also offers some of the most delicious and authentic Chinese food in the neighborhood. It’s a nondescript mom-and-pop type of spot with a hall-in-the-wall ambiance, so it’s easy to miss. But we’ve had some of our best meals here. They specialize in desserts and street-food-inspired dishes. We’re big fans of the following menu items:

  • Green Bean & Dry Kelp
  • Sticky Rice Cake
  • Sweet Rice Roll
  • Sweet Tofu Desert (with choice of peanut, red bean, green bean, or tapioca)
  • Salty Tofu

Philly Poké

You can choose all of one protein or half and half with two choices. You can also add an extra scoop for $2.

Hi Kori

Hi Kori is a newly-opened bar/restaurant in Chinatown and makes a great stop for lunch, dinner, or late-night drinks. Nestled in the back corner of Chinatown Square’s food court, this L-shaped bar is a popular after-dinner spot. After enjoying one of the many delicious food options the Square has to offer, it’s easy to get sucked in here for a cocktail or three.

Some of our favorite dishes at Hi Kori include:

  • Chicken Thigh
  • Whole Squid
  • King Trumpet Mushroom
  • Miso Soup
  • Shrimp Tempura Udon Noodle Soup

They also feature a variety of specialty sakes and imported beers, if you’re looking for some cheap drinks out in Chinatown after your meal.

The N Crowd

Chinatown isn’t just about food, drinks, and desserts – there’s also a variety of entertainment options here. We’re big fans of the N Crowd, which is a no-frills, DIY comedy space specializing in improv performances. It’s also BYOB – so bring a 6-pack or bottle of wine and enjoy some entertaining laughs without breaking the bank here.
